Option 1: Upwork - you can find a detailed training on Upwork here:
Option 2: Groups - you could join TikTok related or general eCommerce groups on Slack, Discord and Facebook to find a media buyer.
The process:
Step 1: Join the group
You could use either free or paid groups for this strategy.
For Facebook, you can just type TikTok Ads or TikTok Marketing in the search bar and filter by groups.

Step 2 - Post
Once accepted into the group, you can make a post saying that you’re looking for a media buyer.
Don’t post an entire job description, make it as short as possible.
Example:
Step 3 - qualify and schedule an interview call
Once you’ve posted in multiple groups, you’ll start receiving messages and comments. For people that commented but didn't send a direct message, you can respond to their comment with “Send me a DM”.
From here you can ask a few qualification questions. For example “How much ad spend have you managed in total on TikTok Ads?”
If they say a figure over $50k, then you can ask them to schedule an interview call using your calendly link.
Step 4 - setup a Calendly link
- You can title it “”TikTok Ads Media Buyer Interview Call”
- Add some qualification questions, for example:
- Where are you based?
- How many years of TikTok Ads experience do you have?
- What’s the most money you have spent on TikTok Ads in one month in USD?
- Add 2 reminders:
- 24 hours before the call
- 1 hour before the call
How to qualify a TikTok Ads Media Buyer:
Qualification criteria:
- Over $50k spent on TikTok Ads (ideally over $100k) with 3+ ROAS
- Ability to show live ad accounts
- Relative close time zone
- Excellent understanding of TikTo Ads and the full eCommerce funnel
- Good communication skills
- Not agency owner

Interview Questions:
- Small talk (how are you? You're based in … right? - make sure the time zone difference isn’t massive)
- What is your experience with TikTok Ads? What type of clients have you worked with? For how long have you been involved in the eCom space?
- What is your overall strategy for TikTok Ads?
- What makes a winning creative in your opinion?
- If a campaign is performing under the target ROAS, what would you tell the client?
- Where do you see yourself in a couple of years?
- What is your current situation? Are you a freelancer? Full time employee? Agency Owner?
- How many clients do you work with at the moment?
- How many extra clients could you handle?
- Why don’t you start your own agency?
- Can you show me some client results in ad accounts live now?
- How much do you usually charge per month to manage an ad account?
- Do you have any questions for me about the role?
Ok, thanks for taking the time to jump on this call. We’ve had lots of applicants, so will let you know if I’d like to move forward with you.
Finding a good media buyer is difficult and it can take a long time. Trust your gut instinct, you’ll probably know you found the right one on the first 5 minutes of the interview call. But you can still make a bad hire, so if they don’t perform, get rid of them very quickly and find a new one.
How to compensate a TikTok Ads Media Buyer:
This will be dependent on how you structure your deals. For example if you charge monthly retainer + %ROAS, you can offer the same compensation structure to your media buyer.
Having a performance incentive is helps motivate them to get better client results, eg. %ROAS, % ad spend, % sales.
Ideally, you shouldn’t pay your media buyer more than 30% of your retainer.
On average a decent compensation structure would be: $700-1500 + 2-3% ROAS
